What does it take to bring specialized surgical care to a region where it’s desperately needed? For Dr. John Kinyua, it meant embarking on a life-changing journey from being a general surgeon to becoming Coast General Hospital’s first-ever dedicated vascular surgeon.
Supported by EASI, Dr. Kinyua received specialized training in vascular surgery in Paris, France, in 2023. Upon returning to Mombasa, he brought not just new skills but a renewed sense of purpose. Today, Dr. Kinyua is transforming patient care in the region, handling complex vascular cases that were once referred to facilities outside the area—or worse, left untreated.
Dr. Faulds, an EASI vascular surgeon based in Vancouver, continues to mentor Dr. Kinyua, ensuring that he remains at the cutting edge of his field. Together, they are demonstrating the profound impact that focused training and mentorship can have on individual lives—and entire healthcare systems.
