Empowering Surgical Excellence in East Africa

Building Sustainable Sub-Specialty Surgical Care

Who We Are

EASI (East Africa Surgical Initiative) is transforming surgical care in East Africa by empowering local clinicians through comprehensive training, education, and mentorship. Unlike organizations that focus solely on short-term interventions, EASI is dedicated to building enduring professional relationships between visiting specialists and local doctors to foster sustainable growth in healthcare.

Our "train the trainer" approach ensures that skills and knowledge are passed on, creating a ripple effect of improvement across the region. By selecting qualified individuals with strong local ties, EASI supports the development of a healthcare system that can thrive long after our involvement.
In addition to mentorship, we fund formal fellowship training for East African clinicians, equipping them with advanced skills and confidence to lead in their specialties.

Accountability

As a 100% volunteer-driven, non-profit organization, EASI operates without paid staff, ensuring that every resource goes directly to advancing healthcare. Since its founding in 2021, EASI has built a strong track record of excellence in both patient care and education. Our clinicians are leaders in their respective fields and hold affiliations with top academic institutions in Canada.

Our Mission

Dedicated to Advancing Subspecialty Surgical Care in East Africa

Empowering Local Surgeons to Build a Sustainable Future for Advanced Surgical CareFounded in 2021, the East Africa Surgical Initiative (EASI) works to create world-class subspecialty surgical services for all East Africans, regardless of their background, social status, or financial situation.

We believe that the best way to achieve lasting change is to build strong relationships. That’s why we send small teams of 1-2 clinicians at a time to work closely with local healthcare providers. By emphasizing mentorship and collaboration, we ensure that advanced surgical procedures are performed by East African clinicians, for East African patients.

Our Core Values
